La Concina de Mama/Mama’s Kitchen provides access to fresh, healthy food in food deserts for BIPOC and low wealth communities. And works to pass the knowledge of African American, Latinx, Indigenous, and Applaachian foodways to the next generation through kids and youth classes.
Beloved Asheville uses food as a vehicle to bring communities together to nurture relationships, create food sovereignty, celebrate diverse cultures and traditions, build multi-racial movements for solidarity, and heal from the harm caused by systemic racism and multiple forms of oppression. Our newest project was introduced in the Fall of 2022. Look for Mama’s Kitchen this Thanksgiving!
Mama’s Kitchen is in memory of a powerful black elder, Queen Mother,
who was a vital part of the lifeblood of BeLoved Asheville.
She loved cooking meals for friends and families in need,
dancing for the perfect thanksgiving turkey,
and sharing fresh healthy foods during our food sharing markets for many years.
"BeLoved constantly is in the “eye of the storm” providing for those in need and helping us to remember the humanity in all."
